Watch a little footage and interviews from James Day's first pro start in Nitro Funny Car.

For rookie Nitro Funny Car driver James Day, every waking minute of his life has been spent preparing himself for this moment. The goals were simple, yet the road has been long. The chance to qualify and get his first pro race day start on the NHRA Full Throttle circuit has eluded Day, and thanks to CleanBoost Performance Motor Oils, and the team at CRX Media his dream has finally happened. Last month at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, CO, Day piloted John Lindey’s Nitro Funny Car into the #13 qualifying spot. His opponent, World Champion Robert Hight, part of John Force Racing. While Hight went on to win the race, the dream had begun for the 32 year-old Mission Viejo, CA resident.

For the humble Day, the dream has begun, and with some help from a few marketing partners, he will be out running full time in 2011 where the goal will now change to win his first round, and eventually hoist his first Wally at a National Event.

We put this quick video together to let you inside the weekend that was, and some thoughts from James Day himself. Enjoy!

The 32-year old Day kick-started his professional career, impressing his first round opponent, former Champion Robert Hight.

Morrison, Colo. – NHRA Funny Car driver James Day waited several years to compete on the big stage of the premier drag racing sanctioning body. And the experience he and the CleanBoost Performance Motor Oil Funny Car team of John Lindsay Racing had during the 31st running of the MOPAR Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Morrison, Colo. was nothing short of inspirational.

Day qualified the Lindsay Racing Monte Carlo in the number 13th position and met up against reigning NHRA Funny Car World Champion Robert Hight, the driver of the John Force Racing AAA Ford Mustang in the first round of eliminations. At the flash of the green light, both drivers left side-by-side, both peddled their throttles to maintain traction about 150 feet into the run, but Hight’s Ford regained traction sooner and his team prevailed, while Day’s CleanBoostoil.com Funny Car overpowered the Bandimere Speedway all-concrete race track and slowed to mid-six second tire smoking elapsed time.

As the drivers reached the shut down area, a jubilant Hight jumped out of his mount and spoke with NHRA announcer Alan Reinhart. Instead of thanking his sponsors, his team owner or his crew, Hight showed his class and character when he spoke from his heart over the track’s PA system. “I am so proud of James Day today,” noted the defending World Champion Hight. “When I saw him being introduced to the crowd today and the passion in his eyes before we raced, it reminded me of when I came into this sport as a driver in 2005. We’ve both worked our way up from crew members to drivers and it was an honor to race him today. Seeing James race today made me again realize how fun this sport can be.” Click here to watch Hight’s post-race interview.

Hight also echoed these sentiments on ESPN 2 after his team captured the event championship after beating his father-in-law and car owner John Force for the first time in final round competition. However, he was not the only one inspired by the efforts of the second generation driver from Mission Viejo, Calif.

“We are honored to have been a part of helping James Day accomplish his lifelong dream of racing professionally in the NHRA and he and the team made us very proud,” noted Don Poscente, the Managing Director of Combustion Technologies Inc., the original manufactures of CleanBoost® products. “I have been introduced to the excitement of this sport this season and like James this event was our professional debut in NHRA Drag Racing. We are very pleased with how well he represented our company and our products. And we hope to build on this partnership with James into the future.”

Day works as an electrician during the week and is regarded as one of the more diverse drivers in NHRA today. To date in 2010, James has driven two-NHRA Heritage Series Nitro Nostalgia Funny Cars, has driven a Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster and the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Nitro Funny Car of John Lindsay. He has worked his way into the driver’s seat after crewing for several top-flight professional drag racing teams.

“I am very grateful for the support of Jason Lehr with CRX Media this weekend. It was also cool to meet Danny Gruninger on Thursday night and have Kalifornia Katie Sullivan hanging out with us this weekend. The car looked awesome in the CleanBoost colors provided by Fineline Graphics. Our team looked sharp in the Impact Racing uniforms. And of course, none of this would be possible without the confidence of John Lindsay and my wife Samantha. I am one lucky guy.”

We were all here till 1am in the morning, and when we lit that bad boy up and it hit on all 8 cylinders, we all exhaled a sigh of relief.

Morrison, Colo. – James Day, the 32-year old driver of John Lindsay’s CleanBoostOil.com Nitro Funny Car will make his NHRA professional debut when he battles the defending NHRA Full Throttle Series Funny Car champion Robert Hight in the first round of the MOPAR Mile High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo.

After spending the entire first day of qualifying trying to diagnose a mechanical gremlin in the fuel system of the Lindsay Racing nitro flopper on Friday, the CleanBoostoil.com Funny Car team was ready to hit the NHRA 1000’ race track for the first time since the 2009 NHRA World Finals in Pomona, Calif. The result was a planned 400’ shake down pass which netted a solid 5.228 second elapsed time, placing Day solidly in the 16-car field in the lucky number 13 spot. The fact the Mission Viejo, Calif. based driver was able to make the third qualifying session was due only to the selfless assistance of three other Fuel category teams.

“When we fired up our CleanBoostoil.com Monte Carlo Funny Car on Friday morning, our car had a significant fuel system problem, as the entire left hand side of the car was very lean, belching out flames and just sounded sick,” noted Day, who has driven in the NHRA Heritage Series Nostalgia Top Fuel and Funny Car divisions in 2010. “After changing everything we possibly could, and attempting to fire up the car 8 times, we were in left field. It was at this time, Dale Creasy Jr. and Jeff Diehl came over to our pit to give us a third party eye and helped us diagnose the problem. We were all here till 1am in the morning, and when we lit that bad boy up and it hit on all 8 cylinders, we all exhaled a sigh of relief.

“I can’t begin to thank them all enough for offering to help us out,” Day continued. “It shows once again the spirit of our sport and how we are all one big family out here. “Peanut” Creasy and “The Surfer” Diehl stayed with us until the wee hours of the morning. It was a great feeling, and we would not be out here and qualified in this field without their assistance. I am so thankful to John Lindsay and CleanBoost® PERFORMANCE MOTOR OIL for helping me to accomplish my dream of racing in the NHRA Full Throttle Series. We are going to rock it tomorrow.”

Day will match up against the reigning NHRA Full Throttle Funny Car champion; Robert Hight from Yorba Linda, Calif. Hight debuted in the NHRA Professional Series in 2005 at the season opening Winternationals. He did not capture his first round win until the next event in Phoenix, Ariz. The CleanBoostOil.com team would love nothing more than to give Day his first round win against the juggernaut at JFR.

“It’s Funny Car racing in Denver, which if we go out there and run our game and he makes a mistake we may actually take a round win,” Day concluded. “We know the odds are against us, but it will make one heck of a story if we can pull it off. Either way, we are honored to be racing tomorrow for CleanBoost, Impact Racing, Justice Brothers and all of our friends and family who have supported us.”

“I am always excited for drag racing, but seriously, right now I am chomping at the bit in preparation for racing in Denver”

Morrison, Colo. – Simply put, James Day is absolutely stoked about racing a NHRA Nitro Funny Car once again. The 32-year old diverse Nitro Pilot from Mission Viejo, Calif. will return to the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series this weekend driving the John Lindsay Racing / CleanBoostoil.com Chevrolet Monte Carlo at this year’s MOPAR Mile High Nationals contested at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo.

“I am always excited for drag racing, but seriously, right now I am chomping at the bit in preparation for racing in Denver,” noted Day. “When John Lindsay called me and offered me the ride in his Nitro Funny Car for this event, I was overwhelmed. When the guys at Combustion Technologies USA (http://www.combustionusa.com) and CleanBoostOil.com provided the funding to make it a reality, I was extremely humbled. I can’t thank them enough for providing me with a chance to live the dream once again.”

A second-generation drag racer growing up in the hot bed of the sport, Southern California, Day has worked his way to becoming one of the more diverse drivers in drag racing today. From front motored Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars, to the modern-day 300 MPH monsters of the 1,000-foot NHRA series, Day has driven them all. However, he didn’t start as a driver. Like everything in his life, he worked his way to the top.

Day began as a crew member on his father Richard Day’s race teams as a child. He then worked with several professional teams, starting with cleaning the race car until learning all phases of mechanical duties before he ever strapped into a race car. His work history includes wrenching on some of the world’s top race teams such as Jack Wyatt, Gary Densham, Jerry Toliver and Del Worsham. The experience has helped Day become a more complete and proficient driver.

“This is a new car for the Lindsay Racing team so we are planning to head out in Q-1 and make a shake down pass,” Day stated. “If everything goes as planned, we’ll step on the loud peddle and try to get a solid pass down the track in Q-2. Either way, our goal this weekend is to entertain the fans, provide a good R.O.I. for our Marketing Partners at Cleanboostoil.com, Impact Racing, CRX Media and Justice Brothers. We know we are underdogs here, but in Denver, anything can happen. If we can make the show, and race on Sunday, our whole team will be very happy.”

Diverse Nitro Pilot to Drive for John Lindsay in Denver

Denver, Colo. – James Day, the 32-year old diverse nitro pilot from Orange, Calif. will return to the NHRA Nitro Funny Car ranks behind the wheel of John Lindsay’s “Impulse” Funny Car with the support of CleanBoost® PERFORMANCE MOTOR OILS at this year’s Mopar Mile High NHRA Nationals to be contested at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colo July 23rd- 25th.

A second-generation drag racer growing up in the hot bed of the sport, Southern California, Day has worked his way from being a crew member for veteran Funny Car drivers Jack Wyatt, Jerry Toliver, Del Worsham, and Gary Densham to becoming one of the more diverse nitro-pilots in drag racing today. Recently Day has piloted the “LA HOOKER” and “Holy Toledo” Nostalgia Nitro Funny Cars and “The Foothill Flyer” Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster. Day’s last NHRA National Event appearance was behind the wheel of the DLS Motorsports Top Fuel Records sponsored flopper at the 2008 NHRA Winternationals and he is anxiously awaiting returning to the NHRA ‘Big Show’ driving for veteran owner John Lindsay.

“I can’t begin to describe how excited I am to race at a quality facility like Bandimere Speedway with a great group of guys at John Lindsay Racing,” noted Day, who works as an electrician during the work week. “We also would not be able to head out to “Thunder Mountain” without the support of Combustion Technologies USA and their CleanBoost® PERFORMANCE MOTOR OILS product line. We’ll be using their fuel treatment in our truck, the METTLE ARMOR Racing Oil in the Funny Car, and clean everything with their new NANO-SHEEN™ all weekend. It’s going to be a great weekend of racing in Denver and I am very appreciative to all those who have supported me over the years.”

DAY TO PILOT ICONIC FLOPPER IN VEGAS

Las Vegas, Nev. – Second generation drag racer James Day is a throwback to the days when race car drivers were an extension of the cars they drove. In fitting nature, Day will return to the seat of one of the more iconic Nitro-Floppers of the late 1960’s this weekend in Las Vegas, Nev., when the NHRA Heritage Hot Rod Series lands on “The Strip” at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the “Rock-A-Billy” Rod Reunion contested May 28th- May 30th.

James Day will once again be behind the butterflies of Ron and Ed Lenarth’s “Holy Toledo” Jeep at the upcoming Rockabilly Rod Reunion at The Strip. Day piloted the “Holy Toledo” Jeep to its quickest ever pass with a 6.08 second elapsed time and is looking forward to reuniting with the team in Las Vegas for what is shaping up to be the biggest showing of nitro funny cars since the March Meet earlier this year.

“I am very thankful to the entire “Holy Toledo” team for giving me a chance to get back in the seat of this really wicked Flopper,” noted the diverse nitro pilot Day, who earlier this season drove Steve Plueger’s LA HOOKER Nitro Nostalgia Funny Car at the 50th NHRA Winternationals as well as the “Foothill Flyer” Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster at the NHRA March Meet. “I’ve had some success in driving this car and it sure does handle different than anything I’ve ever driven, but that’s what makes it fun and cool at the same time. This car has a ton of history behind it and I’d love to see if we can get this car into the five-second zone this weekend in Vegas. Whether we do or not does not matter. I’m just happy to get back into a ride again.”

In its hay-day, the “Holy Toledo” might have been as aerodynamic as a brick, but it was tough to beat. It was built by Ed Lenarth and Brain Chuchua in late 1968 after the breakup of the ‘Secret Weapon” team of Roger Wolford and Lenarth. The new “Holy Toledo” was built with state of the art equipment of the time. It raced in open Southern California races and match races. Roger Wolford left to drive the Mako Shark Corvette, leaving Lenarth to drive for himself. Lenarth drove the bright yellow Jeep to a career best elapsed time of 7.37 seconds at 197 miles per hour.

This weekend’s Rock-a-Billy Reunion is a throw-back to events of yesterday as well. The three day event will consist of a car show and concert on Friday with drag racing action beginning on Saturday and eliminations on Sunday. LVMS is offering a special race-weekend pass for $49.00 for all three days. For more information about the event and ticketing info, please visit lvms.com.

CRX Clients claim two more championships at March Meet.

Bakersfield, Calif. – It was an epic day at the legendary Auto Club Famoso Raceway as CRX clients Adam Sorokin and Jesse Adams captured championships in their respective categories during the 52nd running of the NHRA Heritage Series March Meet.

The 2010 edition of the famous late-winter pilgrimage to the Famoso quarter-mile began with three CRX clients competing at the historic event. James Day entered the March Meet driving the “Foothill Flyer” Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster. Adam Sorokin competed in the same category behind the wheel of the brand new Champion Speedshop / Van Dyke Motorsports hemi-powered dragster. Jesse Adams raced in his 1969 Camaro in the very competitive Hot Rod category.

Jesse Adams drove his K&N Filters Camaro to a final round victory with a dead-on 11.23 et.

Jesse Adams drove his K&N Filters 1969 Chevrolet Camaro to a victory in the very competitive Hot Rod category with his final round victory, recording a dead-on 11.23 second elapsed time in the money round to take home the coveted March Meet title. “Tim, I just won the March Meet,” was the text message Adams typed to CRX Director of Communications and Marketing Tim Charlet only 4 minutes after he crossed the finish line.

“Winning this race had nothing to do with the money, it was about the history and prestige,” noted Adams. “Several drag racing legends have won races here at the March Meet. To be included in the same category as those guys is a huge honor. I’m just glad the K&N Filter’s Camaro was on fire this weekend. And the driver didn’t do that shabby either,” Adams said with a chuckle.

Adam Sorokin runs a 5.764 at 241.64 to win the final round at the 52nd Annual March Meet.

Second generation driver Adam Sorokin accomplished a life-long goal of winning the same historic race his legendary father, Mike Sorokin won in 1966. 44-years after his dad’s greatest victory, the “son of the surfer” has his own March Meet AA/FD championship. Sorokin’s final round 5.764 second elapsed time at a speed of 241.61 mph was the winner over Howard Haight’s 5.93-second 246 MPH effort. The triumph has been a long time coming for the Champion Speedshop / Van Dyke Motorsports team, who brought the all-new hemi-powered dragster to the 52nd March Meet with only a single test run complete, recorded one week before the race in Sacramento. Once at the March Meet the car went quicker and faster with each pass.

“It was an unbelievable race weekend for the entire team,” said Sorokin. “My mom told me I was conceived at this race track during this race when my dad won and to come back after all these years and win it is too big a dream to be true.”

The weekend did not end up as veteran nitro-pilot Day would have wanted, as cold track conditions threw the ‘Foothill Flyer’ crew a curve-ball and the make-shift team went home after a first round defeat. “I was simply honored to race this weekend,” noted Day. “This deal came about so quickly for us and the entire crew did a fabulous job, we just were not able to lay down a representative run. Hopefully, we’ll be able to compete at future events with this team.”

All-in-all, this weekend will go down as a historic one for the CRX Promotions team. It marked the first time two CRX Clients captured victory on the same day. The wins by Sorokin and Adams are victories number 2 and 3 for the CRX team of drivers while under the CRX banner. Tony Bartone and Rick Jackson Racing became the first clients to bring home a trophy for the CRX team when they captured the NHRA Division 4 LODRS event in Belle Rose, LA last year.

If this weekend is any indication of future performance, several other CRX clients will be adding to our team win total shortly.

DAY AND FOOTHILL FLYER TO TAKE OFF AT FOMOSO..

<a href="http://www.nhrahotrodheritage.com/index.html"target="blank">

Bakersfield, Calif. – Diverse nitro-pilot James Day is very grateful to drive any race car.

For the Mission Viejo, Calif. based driver the good will of a few good friends will permit Day to compete in the Jensen, Civelli and Rogers “Foothill Flyer” Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster this weekend at the 52nd running of the March Meet contested at Auto Club Fomoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif.

The opportunity to drive the Foothill Flyer at this year’s annual NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series late-winter pilgrimage to ‘The Patch’ came about very quickly. As many things in today’s economy there was one obstacle; money. “Pete Jensen and Mike Civelli had planned to co-tune the “Nitro Diction” Top Fuel Car and had the “Flyer” (image below) race-ready,” noted Day. “We just needed to come up with some money to fund the car. Since the money tree in my back yard is not blooming this year we were counting on some type of miracle to occur.”

The money to operate the Chris Nance tuned Foothill Flyer was raised by several good friends of Day who wanted to ensure his professional racing goal continued.

“I posted a comment on my <a href="http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1423227037"target="blank">Facebook page stating I was looking for sponsors to drive the Foothill Flyer at the March Meet and low-and-behold people started sending checks,” said Day. “I was shocked at first when Lee and Mert Littlefield of Littlefield Superchargers offered some assistance, but then Rex Rexroat, Derek Flynn of Gold Coast RV’s, Tim Sieger at Ultimate Design, John Halsted of Western Hoist, John Lombardo Jr at Jackson Auto Supply, Jim Maher at Good Vibrations, Dave and Linda Smith of DLS Motorsports, Larry and Roy Miersch, John Keigley, and Dale Pulde followed their lead. With the support of companies like DJ Safety, Black Fly’s Sunglasses and Backward Circle Bikes, we’ll be ready to whoop up on all those guys this weekend.”

Day has been busy so far this racing season. Beginning at the season opening NHRA Winternationals he drove Steve Plueger’s “LA HOOKER” Nitro Nostalgia Funny Car. He was scheduled to drive the same car at the NHRA Arizona Nationals; however weather and track preparation delays bumped the flopper from running. “I can’t thank Steve Plueger enough for giving me the nitro fix I needed to begin the season,” Day concluded. “It was an honor to drive that car, but this weekend some guy named Ron Capps is driving the car. I wish him the best of luck because that is one bad flopper. I’m sure he can handle it,” Day said with a smile.
